Bio

Lychee is the result of two parallel longtime endeavors by musicians Sage Redman (20) and Joe Gillick (23) living in South East London. Joe at 15, found a lot more time to concentrate on music after dropping out of school and writing through his teens, riffs that would ultimately contribute to the Lychee sound. Meanwhile Sage was perfecting her influences at a boarding school in Massachusetts after playing numerous small time gigs as a promising 15 year old in Seattle. The two honed their crafts on different continents utilizing contrasting styles until they met in London in 2011. The music from this duo twisted and reformed to inevitably create ‘My Team’, the bands first album.

Lychee are an electro-acoustic duo utilising strings, trumpet, piano and guitar in contrast with synth and processed percussion. Sage, writing piano driven songs from her basement at a young age, and Joe, a self taught guitarist playing in rock bands and producing electronic music on the side, collaborate to attain a unidentifiable sound that simultaneously recalls from popular music’s archives.

The band recorded ‘My Team’ in their South London flat and surrounding area. The album constitutes a variety of instruments, the majority played by the band with a few exceptions. Taking portable equipment with them to obtain the recordings they needed to finish their album, the duo wrote music for trumpet, clarinet, cello and French horn to bring the album to life.
